Of course what 30th birthday trip with friends would be complete without a 30th birthday party? We had long thought about staying at the Park Hyatt because of its amazing amenities and views (it’s the world’s tallest hotel) but had eventually looked elsewhere for space and location concerns. So obviously we had to still go!
It’s honestly kind of a hassle to have three floors. Like, what if we want to take breakfast on the sala? Or what if we want to use the pool but need to hear the doorbell for the turndown service? These waterfalls are kind of loud.

We finally got to see Alex! Meeting her at the Shanghai airport, flying to Bangkok, staying up until 5am drinking tea and eating cookies, and lounging by the pool that same morning was as surreal and incredible as you can imagine. And finally some Pad Thai! The room was very simple and chic with a huge bathroom. The pool was lovely if a bit cold for obvious reasons. We’ll actually be back in a week for our dinner at Nahm.
These posts are going up late because China blocked my WordPress access, and my VPN, and Facebook, and now all of a sudden Gawker. This is turning into a Sally Field movie. But no matter! We woke at the butt crack of dawn and ventured out to see what this city was all about…
